PIKING TIME AGAIN.

The first of October and the new Pike season has started. The members will be  out and about and the quest is on to see who can get the first SENPAC 20 for 2023/24. Based on other years the answer is probably going to be not that long. Time will tell. But before we start reporting on our Pike fishing exploits a run down on what has been happening this last month. Another fruitful month with some lovely Barbel and Chub being caught by those who were prepared to do some travelling and some river Pike caught in the last couple of weeks.

SUMMER SEASON COMING TO AN END.

Steve With A Nice Net Of Roach.

The Summer season is nearing its end but the region has had reasonable success with most of the members catching some nice fish. The Summer League trophy fished over four events was won by Bruce Turnbull with a total weight of 61 lbs beating Dave Greally into second place with 59 lbs. Third place went to Dave Gardner.

The new Pike season is approaching and plans for the region's monthly trips are nearly in place. Our Jolly Boys outing will be in November and this year we have a good turnout. As mentioned before this trip is a great social event with good accommodation, plenty of banter and hopefully some big Pike.

COMPETITION TIME.

A Triumphant Chris After Winning The 2023 Golden Maggot Match.

The region is enjoying its annual competitions. Pictured above Chris Graham after winning our Golden Maggot match for 2023. Chris had a winning weight of 14lbs 12 ozs. Second place went to Dave Greally with the other contenders never in contention.

A Nice Mixed Bag Wins The Golden Maggot.

The four match Summer league continued with round two of the series. A good turnout but unfortunately very few fish on the day. A surprise winner of the match was junior member Jonny Tweddle who showed all the adults how it should be done. After round two Bruce Turnbull still leads the way with a total weight of 46lbs 7 ozs. Second place at present is Dave Greally with 35lb 10 ozs and Dave Gardner third with 21lb 7 ozs. The third round will be held later this month.

Steve "Shark" Sandiford has been on his annual holiday looking for some Barbel and Chub. Due to conditions and low water levels the results proved disappointing but as usual Steve did manage to winkle some smaller ones out.

                                  Bruce Catching Some Nice Crucians.

Dave Greally was second with 33lb 14 ozs and Dave Gardner third with 21lb 7 ozs. Some very nice weights for the first match. WE AWAIT SOME WARMER WEATHER.

Some nice Tench have been caught this last month by the members as well as other species but at times the temperatures have been very low with chilly breezes along the way. Hopefully the temperatures will improve as we move into May which will increase the catches and the size of the fish that we are pursuing. One way of solving the problem is by going to warmer venues. Two of our members Dave Gardner and Steve " Shark" Sandiford decided to do just that and after a long and eventful trip they had a week in a much more pleasant climate.

The region has this last month awarded the following trophies in the various categories for the year ending 31st March 2023. Dave Greally picked up the biggest Pike of the year award together with the Winter Pike championship and the biggest Pike on a club trip. Junior angler of the year was won by Jonnie Tweddle. Best Pike caught on a lure went to Wayne Gardner. The members voted Bruce Turnbull as Pike angler of the year, and the SENPAC cup was jointly awarded to Andy Eland and Dennis Fearon for their tremendous fund raising efforts through the region for Childrens Cancer North.

ANOTHER PIKING SEASON ENDS.

The end of another SENPAC Piking season but what a season it has been with some lovely thirty pound plus fish being caught by the members and a good sprinkling of 20 pounders to back them up. The 1st  of April marks  the start of the new year for the region and already dates are in the diaries for our Summer series of matches and our Winter Pike matches that will include two of our now legendary Jolly Boys outings. Our attention will now be on the Summer coarse species with local waters being targeted for specimen Tench, Carp, Bream, Perch and Roach to name five. A new addition to the region is our new club logo pictured above which we hope gets the thumbs up. It was time for a change and the region's members have given full approval to the new badge. A good end to our Pike season and pictured below some of the lovely fish caught by the members last month.
