SUMMER LEAGUE COMPLETED.

The final leg of the region's Summer league was held on a local reservoir. Bruce Turnbull held a big lead going into the match and he even had time to take a holiday in the sun leaving the rest of us to try and catch him up. Expectations were high going into the match with big weights expected but unfortunately conditions were not favourable and everyone who attended struggled on the day. So for the second year running Bruce lifted the Summer league trophy. Jon Tweddle took second place with Chris Graham filling the third spot. One month to go before we get back into the Pike fishing and plans are already in place for our Winter Pike championship venues and the first of our Jolly Boys outings.

A QUIET MONTH.

A reasonably quiet month for the region. Dave Greally has been trying some lure fishing for the Bass with some decent success. The rest of the members have been out and about on our local club waters catching Bream,Tench,Carp, Roach etc. The third round of the region's Summer league got a good turnout. Winner on the day was Jon Tweddle with a weight of 16lbs 3 ozs which included a personal best 6lb Tench pictured above. Bruce Turnbull claimed second spot with a catch of 12lb 12 ozs with Paul "Pogo" Patterson taking third spot. One round to go this month and at this point in time Bruce Turnbull has a 24lb lead on the second placed Jon Tweddle. With Bruce not participating in the last round due to holidays everyone knows what they have to catch to lift the trophy. The final venue for the Summer league if on song on the day could provide the total amount of fish to overhaul Bruce. Time will tell.

THE GOLDEN MAGGOT.

The last day of June saw the region's annual Golden Maggot match take place. A low turnout this year but conditions on the day proved perfect for the eight hour match which took place on one of our local waters. Chris Graham retained the trophy with a nice bag of skimmer Bream, Roach, Rudd, and Crucian Carp totalling 10 lbs 8ozs. Second spot went to Bruce Turnbull with Dave Greally taking third place.

Ross Greaves did a little bit of lure fishing on one of his favourite rivers late in June and caught a lovely Pike weighing in at 23lbs 6 ozs and a decent Zander. As can be seen on the photograph the Pike exacted revenge on Ross.

Bruce Turnbull still has a convincing lead after round two of the region's Summer league which was won by Chris Graham who had a nice Tench of 5lb 7 ozs amongst his catch.

SUMMER LEAGUE.

The region's Summer league commenced last month and the first round on a local water saw Bruce Turnbull take a big step to lifting the trophy by catching 27lbs 14 ozs of Carp. Dave Greally finished second with a weight of 8lbs 6 ozs and Mike Bell third with 6lbs 4 ozs. Dave Greally had a trip over the border and had a lovely 24lb 8 oz Pike (pictured below) which has set the target for the other members. Ross Greaves has also been catching some smaller Pike on Scottish Lochs.  Some nice Tench have also been captured over the last month on local waters and in Yorkshire.

TIME FOR THE REGION'S SUMMER MATCHES.

The Pike fishing season over and Dave Gardner had his sights on catching a big Carp. He certainly got off to a flyer with this 31lb 15oz new PB. In his own words he said that he was really chuffed with his catch and so he should have been.  Bruce Turnbull had another holiday up to the Highlands of Scotland and once again came up with the goods in the shape of this 22lb 8oz Pike pictured below.

With the temperatures starting to rise the members will be out on our local waters catching Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Carp etc. Our Summer series of  matches will commence this month.

The region's two year fundraising for Childrens Cancer North has been a total success and the support we have had has been amazing. A cheque was presented to the charity on the 6th April by 7 year old Nathan, grandson of SENPAC member Paul Proctor.

We are pleased to announce that our fundraising for Childrens Cancer North is to continue and we have now set a target to raise £20,000.00 by this time next year.

THE END OF ANOTHER PIKE SEASON.

                                             Dave With His Blank Saver.

Last month of the SENPAC Pike season brought the final leg of our Winter Pike championship. Going into the final match it was a very close thing with only a few points difference at the top of the table. Dave Greally held a slight lead at the start of the eight hour match. The match took place during the region's Jolly Boys outing. The first two days of the trip proved very gruelling with weather conditions not being favourable due to high water levels, rain and chilly winds. Only a couple of Pike caught on those two days one being Dave's pictured above. The final match took place on the Sunday with eight members present on the bank and many baits in the water. Conditions again not that favourable and once again it was a struggle for most. Six hours into the match and still no fish. Things started to look a little brighter when Bruce Turnbull caught a small Jack and then Mike Bell landed a fish of 12lb 4ozs. That was all the action for the day so the final result in the Pike championship was Dave Greally 1st with 18 points, Jon Tweddle 2nd with 17 points, and joint 3rd Bruce Turnbull and Steve Sandiford on 15 points each.

Mike - A Tough Day But A Match Winner.

The trip continued for another couple of days and a few fish were caught with Pogo catching the biggest fish on the trip.

                                              Pogo - Last Day Success.

                                              Jon - Worth The Wait.

                                                Andy - Back On Menteith.

                                                Time To Relax.

The region's trophy year ends on the 31st March and this year's winners are as follows. Chris Graham won the Golden Maggot match. Bruce Turnbull won the Summer series of matches. Dave Greally won the Winter Pike championship, and Andy Eland took the biggest Pike on a club trip trophy. It look destined to be a tie for the biggest Pike of the year award between Dave Greally and Ross Greaves both having fish at 26lb 4 ozs but an early March 27lb 6 oz caught by Andy took the silverware. The Pike angler of the year award and the SENPAC cup winner are still to be voted on by the members.

                                      Andy - Late Season Winner.

The region now looks forward to the next few months when we will turn our attention to the other coarse species. The first of our Summer matches will be our Golden Maggot followed closely by our four match Summer series.

SUPPORTING CHILDRENS CANCER NORTH.

And finally we are pleased to announce that our fundraising for Childrens Cancer North appeal is coming to a close. The total raised to date so far amounts to over £9,900.00. The SENPAC FINAL COUNTDOWN FOR CHILDRENS CANCER NORTH night is to be held at West Moor social club in Newcastle on the evening of the 6th April commencing at 7pm. We are expecting a good turnout on the night which will see us break through the £10,000.00 target that we set. An evening which will include an auction, raffle, tombola, live entertainment and much more. The highlight on the evening will be the cheque presentation from the region to Childrens Cancer North.
In closing the region would like to thank all those who have helped us over the last two years. Without all your support, kindness and generosity we would have never achieved our goal.
